Basic Rules
The game begins with a come-out roll. If the shooter rolls 7 or 11, Pass Line bets win. If they roll 2, 3, or 12 (craps), Pass Line bets lose. Any other number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10) becomes the point. The shooter continues rolling until they hit the point again (Pass Line wins) or roll a 7 (Pass Line loses).
Best Bets
Pass Line: House edge of 1.41%. The fundamental bet in craps.
Dont Pass: House edge of 1.36%. Betting against the shooter.
Come/Dont Come: Same odds as Pass/Dont Pass but made after a point is established.
Odds Bet: House edge of 0%. The only true odds bet in the casino. Place behind your Pass Line bet after a point is established. Maximizing your odds bet is the smartest play in craps.
Bets to Avoid
Proposition bets in the center of the table have house edges ranging from 9% to over 16%. Big 6 and Big 8 pay even money but have a 9% house edge. Hardways bets carry edges of 9-11%. While these bets can be fun occasionally, they will drain your bankroll quickly.
Craps Etiquette
Keep your hands away from the table when dice are in play. Handle dice with one hand only and throw them to the opposite end, hitting the back wall. Dont say seven when someone is shooting. Place bets by putting chips on the layout, not by throwing them. Tip dealers by placing bets for them.
Where to Play
For low minimums ($5), check downtown casinos or off-Strip properties. Strip casinos typically have $10-25 minimums. Some casinos offer 10x or even 100x odds, which significantly reduces the effective house edge for skilled players. The Cromwell and Main Street Station are known for offering 100x odds.
